 Something for history lovers, nature lovers, and quilt lovers! This year 2024 is  the 150th birthday anniversary of children's author and 20th century naturalist Thornton Burgess, a native of Sandwich – and Bourne!  

 As part of that celebration, author Christie Lowrance will present a talk about The Last Heath Hen, her just-released conservation book for children and adults. In addition, Pocasset resident Liz Henry will talk about the beautiful original design quilt she made that is based on historic quilting patterns using Burgess characters.

THe Burgess Commemorative Quilt will be raffled off by the Thornton Burgess Society this fall. A QR code to purchase raffle tickets is on the poster and on the Thornton Burgess Society website.
